Editing Day 2

Today was the final deadline for the thriller.  We were meant to meet at lunchtime but speaking to Efosa he had told everyone that he had finished the soundtrack and we just needed to do the title and the credits. This was really helpful because Efosa took time out of his spare time to come in and actually finish the whole soundtrack. I had come in extra early at lunchtime but my group was no where to be seen so i decided to go and look for everyone. After searching for everyone i found out that we didn't have much to do.

That day the whole media suite was very busy this was because everyone was finishing off their work and we had to give in our films. My group were really relaxed as we had previously completed most of the thriller before.

As a group we had listened to the soundtrack that Efosa made and it was really good. It fitted the soundtrack perfectly. After he showed us we added some extra sounds that would go well with the thriller and at the end everyone was happy.

The only thing we had to do was to add the soundtrack to our scenes and add the credits. We managed to stick to the 3 pm deadline for all media students by my class had until 4.30 pm to complete everything because we had a 3 hr lesson.

Generally our group worked really well and we were really happy that we had finished. Considering we put in a lot of effort and hard work. I was relieved because we had a good range of shots and everything came together. The main important part now is that the audience will like it when it comes to viewing it in the cinema. Also i hope we get really good marks because we all deserve it as we worked really hard to achieve a good thriller.

Editing Day 1

Today was a really good day this was because we started editing our thriller. We had to show Ava all the work we had done this was because she had missed the lesson before.  Whilst she wasn't there we managed to do a lot of editing which was really good. The footage and the editing cuts were really successful. The only thing we had to do was put all the best scenes together as everything was captured and logged.
In the lesson we had finished all the editing and when we looked back at it as a group it was really good. This made me feel so proud and happy because we achieved something out of it.
Also in this lesson we started to look at several soundtracks to fit our thriller. Me and Efosa stayed and looked through different sounds, we mainly looked at violin and string instruments. Whilst we were doing that Ava and Annie decided to do the credits. They chose to this so we can get much more done considering the deadline was coming soon.

Overall in todays lesson everything went really well and everyone was proud of what we have overcome so far. Hopefully next lesson we can finish everything and give it in on friday, which the deadline was set. Our group decided to meet at lunchtime so we can be ahead and finish off the soundtrack.

filming day 4

This was our short lesson of the week, so we didnt have much time and what made it even worse was that after we checked over our errors last week, we didnt make a note of them so Efosa, a member of the group went upstairs and check what we had to re - film. We were hoping to re -film the bad shots and the two scenes so we could get it all out of the way. However, we didnt manage to film all the scenes because we didnt have enough time and we didnt actually know what we wanted in the actual scenes. We had a few ideas but they were not final, so the next time we film we are just going to have to experiment as we go along. As a group we have to work hard so we can get all the last scenes so we can start to edit. Our time for filming is very limited and we have had to fit a lot of things in a short amount of time, half term is next week and we dont have a lesson on friday. So as a group we have to come in on Monday for an extra filming day, hopefully we can start to edit on this day aswell.

The Observer Evaluation

Before we actually started planning our thriller, we watched some previous thrillers from the past years to get a feeling of what our thriller should be like. In addition to this, we also were told to go off and watch some thrillers of our own, just the first 5mins of those thrillers. At the start I was a bit skeptical about what a thriller was, I had it in my mind that it was similar to horror but I was told the difference and it’s now clearer in my mind, thrillers are more suspenseful and leave the audience asking questions, horrors are more intended to scare the audience.
One film, which really motivated the planning of my thriller, was a film called “Eagle Eye”; this film inspired me a lot because of the way the director was able to create such tension that would just leave the audience asking so many questions if truth be told, it amazed me. It puzzles me sometimes how directors can think of such things, the director of the film by the way was D.J. Caruso. The main emphasis of my thriller; was to leave the audience asking questions and create a lot of tension; I wanted to try to create, to my ability, an atmosphere as similar to that of “Eagle Eye”. Here’s the IMDB page to the film:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1059786/ and here’s the official film website: http://www.eagleeyemovie.com/

The way I decided to incorporate this atmosphere into my thriller is by creating various shots, which didn’t really show everything to the audience, sothat they can be thinking more about what they think it is and what it could be, basically just makes them explore their minds about possibilities. We explored different kinds of shots to see what kind of atmosphere it creates, shots like the character point of view shots which really excludes the audience form the rest of the world, so the audience would be thinking what’s going on around them. Another shot was a surveillance shot, we didn’t know we had actually created a shot like this until it was pointed out by someone else; the shot seems like a camera is watching the person and makes the audience think who it might be, watching the main character. Other shot’s we used were panning shots, and tracking sots, the way we used these shots worked extremely well with what I was hoping to get out of them. When we used these shots we kind of limited what the audience could see, like if it was on a character it would show the front of the character only, or if it was a panning shot it would follow just the front of the character to exclude the space behind they character. One thing which really worked well with one of our shot’s was when the main character ran out through the hall and closed the last door, as that door closed it made a particular shut sound, that went extremely well with the soundtrack as instigation of the sound being cut off. At the end of all of that there we some amazing shots captured and all that was left was which shots were we going to be used. We actually ended up with almost an hour of filming, that left us with a lot of choosing to do and took time as well.
One challenge I had while trying to create this tense atmosphere, was trying to make the right music. I really needed inspiration for this part because I really wasn’t talented in creating music and I had never done it before, it really took a lot for me to do this part. I had a picture of what the sound would be like in my mind, but turning that into something feasible was the hardest part. Finding the right sounds that matched the mood of a certain scene of the thriller, and certain sound effects for the right moment like slow tempo orchestra beat in the background, some diegetic sounds like heart beats helped the mood as well. All of this was tricky to do but with a little time and effort, I really pulled it off. In the end, I ended up creating just the atmosphere I wanted, it didn’t quite meet the professional atmosphere of “Eagle Eye” but it met the standards of my ability and that’s what’s most important to me right now.

My thriller I would say was more representative of the teenage social group; mainly because there's only a use of teenage actors in the clip, and to me I don’t think adults would be too eager to go watch a film where it only included teenagers unless it’s very good. It would also appeal to both sexes because of the characters used and the situations the characters are placed in. Furthermore the situation used is also a representative of society, when there is a distressed situation between a man and women, the women is more likely to be in the distressed position and the man creating the distress because of how men are seen in a higher status than women, and men are judged to be stronger than women as well. Also the film wouldn’t’ be aimed at the higher social economic group of society, simply because of how the actors are dressed in th
e clip, the audience wouldn’t really associate that with high status, and the higher social economic group wouldn’t really be drawn to something not aimed towards them. I can’t really talk on the language because there wasn’t any talking involved.

The type of media institution that would distribute my film would
be and indie type group or English production studios like Working Title, because the film wouldn’t be so big and wouldn’t need much funding, it would be a low budget film with not a lot of effects (CG). Since it’s bound to be a low budget film, the funds wouldn’t be hard to gather and the distribution is more likely to be within the UK, so advertising is low. Maybe it might be distributed in off sea locations in Europe.

The audience for my media product would be in-between the age of 14-24 (10 yr age gap), both male and female of the white, black and mixed race ethnicity, and with a mid-wage salary in the working class, student’s social background. The way that I would attract this audience is by using a type of language, which appeals to that group, since the group is the typical group of society (working class) and are young, then certain informal language can be used lenient towards slang. Even the dress sense would appeal more to the audience as it’s a casual wear and isn’t very hard to buy, so maybe if the audience were to watch the thriller they may be wearing some of the clothing seen in the thriller. Furthermore the location of the thriller, it’s based near computers and in a college (you can tell by the log-ins on the computer) this automatically directs it to a certain group, which are students, they would suddenly pick up on the fact that there’s a log in and say hey I do that as well.

What really made the thriller great was the technology available to make such perfect work. With the availability of the Mac’s, is what made working on these thrillers easy, editing was so swift and straightforward after we were taught how to use the software which was final cut pro. Over time editing clips couldn’t be any easier, Fin
al Cut Pro really stretched the possibilities of things, which can be done to videos, with the aid of Soundtrack I was able to make the great audio. What also made this thriller practical an ease, was the equipment available as well, the camera’s worked great with the Mac’s and are very easy to use and set up, with a little imagination while using the camera and its stand great things can be made.
Looking back at my preliminary task, I can see that I have truly advanced through the stages. My skills on editing have drastically improved, I have reduced the continuity errors to a minimum or nothing at all, even certain rules that had to be followed like the gap over the head rule, and all other rules were followed. In terms of planning, I think we were more organised than before but I can’t really judge on that because before; we had a shorter time to film in, and for this task I can say our planning skills weren’t of the best; we could have got it finished a lot earlier. The group I was in I can truly say was the perfect group for me, but it’s just the lack of focus that sometimes gets to me and not being able to sacrifice some time to help film, but I can honestly say there wasn’t a better group for me. The main thing we lacked in the group was imagination, we weren’t as creative as we wanted to be with our thriller, and we could have produced something a lot more creative only if we had adventured long enough in our minds just to find the right ideas.

Media Evaluation

The media task was to produce a two minutes thriller clip over a period of roughly two months. Our media product was supposed to develop, challenge forms and conventions of real media products. Over the period that we had of planning time we were given lots of examples in class, watching films such as the shining, and were also shown last year’s AS thrillers which was good because it gave us an idea of what we had to do, what worked well and what had already been done. Over this time we also had tutorials in how to use the cameras and editing to work best with our thrillers. This was a good task as it would benefit us in the end.

My media thriller ‘The observer’ is about a girl being watched. Our choice of location costume and genre was pretty obvious to the task set to us. Costume was everyday clothes, the location was a computer room in the college which was convenient and as this was the type of place out thriller needed. The types of camera shots and movements were done to get the best out of the scenes we planned to film. We used long shots, close ups medium shots, over head shots, high and low angle shots to show a range of camera works. We chose the ones that best displayed the acting and to make it thrilling. During the editing we added the necessary sound effects to bring it together. We also added a few effects such as slow motion and black outs.

Our thriller doesn’t really represent a certain social group, however it shows a young average student, which could be portrayed as the youth of today. Her age and status is shown by the costumes and location (college) as it accompanies it and shows us that she is a student.
The kind of media institution that might distribute our media product are ones such as Film 4 or Blockbuster because the thriller is something that has aspects of a real film that you could to watch at a cinema. Our film could also be a small independent U.K release or we could release it on the internet and networking sites because this would allow all different people to watch it.

I think that the main target audience for my thriller would be young people e.g. teenagers and people in their early 20’s as they can best interact with the character as they are around the same age group. However anyone who enjoys thrillers could also watch it they just may not enjoy it as much. Male and females may both like this as it isn’t biased in any way.
To address my audience and attract them, i will have to use different advertising strategies. There are many ways in which i can do this. Firstly i can advertise them on websites such as Myspace and Facebook by having different pages where people can explore and get information on the film. I could also view the trailers on websites such as Youtube. Posters are also a good old fashioned way of attracting the audience.

Over the process of making my thriller I have learnt how to use a lot. Firstly we had to get used to the Mac computers although I was already familiar with them. I learnt how to use final cut pro which was a hard task but once I got used to it was alright. I’m glad I learnt this as it has taught me new skills that I can use later on in my career. We learnt how to log and capture our work after each day of filming which was helpful in case we lost any film. This also helped me to get used to the Mac computers. We learnt to use sound track to put the sound into our thriller which actually played an important part of the editing. As well as using the computers we had to learn how to use the camera which was obviously the biggest part of the process. Luckily my group all pretty much got the hang of using them quickly and we didn’t experience any trouble with them. The cameras we used were very good and efficient and I’m glad I learnt how to work them. We learnt how to use WebPages such as www.blogger.com in which we had to leave regular blogs of our progress throughout the task. We also used www.vimeo.com to upload all our finished pieces. This was topped off by a viewing of the years work at the VUE cinema in Islington. This was a great opportunity and experience as its likely your work will never be shown on a screen like that again.

Looking back over my preliminary task I feel I have learnt a lot within the progression to the full product. I learnt that planning and organisation is very important as it provides the stability for you work and makes things run according to plan. Research is important to know about existing products. i learnt how to work well in a group and with my chosen team members. Most importantly i learnt to work under pressure and i am happy without final piece. Our thriller got a good reaction in the screening at the cinema, and therefore i believe we done well in our task.

Evaluation

Evaluation

As part of my media coursework we had to create the opening of a thriller which lasted two minutes, including titles. A thriller is a suspenseful adventure story, play or movie. Thrillers have also been produce in the radio, theatre and television media. This genre is incredibly large and thrillers typically involve sudden plot twists and lots of red herrings. For example, keeping people unsure about what is going to happen.
The name of my media thriller was called ‘The observer’. At first we chose to name it ‘Unknown’ but as a group we didn’t like it and we also thought it didn’t relate with our thriller. The reason being the name was too common and we wanted the title to stand out from the rest. Our thriller is about a girl that is being watched by someone else. The plot of our thriller is that she has done something but she thinks she has got away with it. Then she receives an anonymous email and from that point she knows someone else knows what she has done. She then runs out of the computer room and down the corridor. By this point the unknown person sees hers and catches up with her.

The location of our thriller was set in college this was because it was easy access to locate. Also it was easy for our group because we could all just meet up and this came useful if we had to re-film. One member of the group decided to play the lead role in the thriller and others helping with the directing and editing. As it was set in college, the costume was very basic, trendy, everyday clothes because we wanted it to represent a college student. The actor was in college and we didn’t want anyone to notice her. By doing this it created suspense and tension because no one was expecting it.
Our group used a good range of shots from close ups, medium shots, extreme close up, long shots, over the head shot, high angle, low angle and many more.
We tracked the actress when she walk and runs down the corridor. We did this so the audience can see her from the back and front. It was also done so the audience can see where she is going.
At the beginning of our thriller it’s bright and clear. This is for the audience to establish where she is. Then getting towards the end we use a bit of colour to make it dark and dim. This is to show the audience that something strange is going to happen. When it came to editing we used several effects. One of them we used was a heart beating sound which was non- diegetic. This was when the actress is running down the corridor and she stops behind a door trying to catch her breath. Another effect we used was when we slowed down her walking when she runs through the corridor as this made her body look like it was in slow motion. To make our soundtrack we had to use Soundtrack Pro where we had to choose from a range of sounds. My group chose to use orchestra sounds this is because it contained strings and loud clashing instruments.

The social group that our media product represents is mainly for a younger generation who like watching thrillers. We purposely chose to film in a college because we knew what certain audiences like to watch and it appeals to them more.
The age range that would probably be interested into watching our thriller is between 16-19 year olds. This is because most people this age go to college and like to feel on edge with suspenseful and sensational action. In addition I am a teenager myself and I know what people like to hear and watch so this made it easier for me to produce a product to represent this social group.
Working class people will be drawn into my thriller because the characters we chose our working class themselves and I think it they can relate to it better than any other class. When we made our thriller there was no in particular gender or race it was aimed at. It was generally made for people who found thrillers enjoyable and appreciate the fast pacing and complex plots associated with this genre.

The media institution that would I would probably distribute my thriller are either a small independent UK release or release it over the internet on popular websites like YouTube or MySpace. This is because a lot of people use the internet everyday and would find it easier to access the newest and latest film genres. Whereas it is set in a standard college and is edited on an Apple Mac computer not a high tech computer that professionals use. We wouldn’t really need a big distributor because it will be only being shown in the UK, the country it was made in. The thriller was set on a low budget and a lot of people would probably not know about it. I would also make my thriller made for television this is due to the fact that a lot of people watch television and will appeal to a wider audience. Furthermore my film would be shown on the main channels therefore more people will be watching it.

The audience for my media product will be young teenagers or young adults. This is because the actress herself is in the same age range. There is no specific gender for the audience; it can be watched by anyone.

The way I can attract and address my audience is by the story line and the building up of the tension. The soundtrack is quite tense this is because it consists of loud instruments that clash with each other. This was purposely done to make the audience feel tense straight away. There is no dialogue in our film as we thought we didn’t need it. We thought by not adding dialogue it will make the thriller more interesting because you don’t know what is going on. The easiest way to market my film is to advertise it as much as possible. To make my film well known by the public I would advertise it on bill boards throughout the United Kingdom, so everyone gets a chance to see it. I will also advertise the trailer on the television during the adverts/ breaks. For more people to be interested about my thriller I advertise it in places I know young people go. For example, If you buy a meal in a restaurant the poster will be on the walls or their will be a promotion deal. Another way I could market my film is by asking main newspapers to have their say on the film and rating it.

From the process of constructing the thriller I found that using the final cut pro was very difficult this was because I have never used it before. As we used it more frequently it became much easier and good to use. Secondly, on a practical hands on level my experience with using the camera was not difficult this was because I had already used cameras before. On the other hand when it came to use the internet to process the blog and release the movie on vimeo. It wasn’t really a problem because I use the internet a lot and I knew what I was doing. By using the internet it has widened the potential audience for our product. The best part was choosing our soundtrack, as a group we listened to a wide range of music and played around with it to see which one suited the best.
When it came to using the Apple Macs at the start, I dint really understand what I was doing. It took a lot of playing about before I actually noticed what I was doing. I liked it when we had to capture the film and put in the input and output of the video this was really fun because it was easy to find.

Looking back from the preliminary task, I feel that I have learnt so much to the full product. This is because in the preliminary task I didn’t really know what I was doing. I have learnt how to plan my work carefully and write down any useful ideas. This is so the end result will be as you first pictured it. More over, I have also learnt how to overcome problems and finding the best way to address them. I have also learnt how to work as a group and putting everyone’s ideas together so we can produce a good film. The main thing that I have learnt is how to edit and film. Overall I have gained a good insight in the topic of genre this is because when I first started I didn’t know anything about it and thought a thriller had to be scary, but as we learnt about it more I realised there are other reason to it.

Evaluation Of Thriller

A thriller is a suspenseful adventure story or play or movie.Thrillers have also been produce in the radio, theatre and television media. This genre is incredibly large and thrillers typically involve sudden plot twists and lots of red herrings. For example, keeping people unsure about what is going to happen. Some well known thrillers are 'The shining',Pyscho,Dejavu,The Hills Have Eye.

As part of my media coursework we had to create the opening of a thriller which lasted two minutes, including titles. This included decided what our thriller was going to be about, planning how we were going to film it and were , making a production timeline so we all knew when we had to film.

The name of my Thriller is called ‘The Observer’ We chose this name as we think it connotes the theme of our thriller and was the best way of describing the thriller with out giving that much away. Our Thriller is about a girl that is being watched by someone given the hint of the title ‘Observer’. She has done something but thinks she has got away with it until she gets an anonymous email and someone has found out. She still thinks she has got away with it and runs out of the building until the person sees her and catches up with her.

Our thriller was set in the College, the reason for this was because it was easy for our group to meet there and if we needed to re-film anything we would have to travel. As it was set in a college the outfit that the actress wore was her everyday clothes. The actresses casual, up-to-date, trendy approach to fashion show that’s she is off a young/teenage age that’s has an eye for fashion. This shows that she could be of an age of a teenager and represent her as a college student.

Our group used a range of shot types from long shots, close ups, medium shots, point of view shot, high angle shot, low angle shot and some others . We also tracked the actress as she walks and runs down the corridor this is so the audience can follow the actress at her every move. In our film we used the effect of slowing down the walking as this would create an sense of slowness as she walked. As when we next see her in the corridor she is running this creates a contrast with the two shot as we see slow and fast action. To create the perfect sound track we had to use Soundtrack Pro where there Is a variety of sounds to choose from, our group chose sound from the orchestra section, were we used a string instrument to create tension with the music. There is also an organ playing in the background this contrasts with the violin with the deep organ and the high pitch of the violin creates a strange tensioning music. We also used a heart beat for when the actress had finish running and was heavy breathing therefore her heart would be pumping loudly. We used this non-diegetic sound because we wanted to audience to hear her heart.

I think a smaller studio would want to distribute our film as it is just set in a normal college using video cameras and is edited on an apple Mac. The reason for this is our film is very low budget and would attract a small range of people. The benefit with working with a smaller studio is that it would be cheaper for them to distribute and save a lot of money. Also as it is only going to be shown in the UK, we wouldn’t need such a big company to distribute it as it is going to be shown only in the country it was made in. I also think that it can be released over the internet on popular websites like YouTube or MySpace. This is because a lot of people use the internet everyday and would find it easier to access the newest and latest film genres

The audience for my thriller would be teenagers or young adults ages between 16 - 19 as the actress her self is in this age range. The sex of the audience doesn’t really matter as a thriller can be watched by any sex as long as it gets the audience attention as it is aimed to. It could also been aimed at working class people because the characters we chose our working class themselves and I think it they can relate to it better than any other class. It was generally made for people who found thrillers enjoyable and appreciate the fast pacing and complex plots associated with this genre.

We will attract the audience by the tension of our film and by the storyline. The soundtrack is very thrilling as it has a range of violins and organs mixed together to create tension. This will get the audience wanting to watch it as it gets there heart pumping. There is no dialogue in our film as we thought that we wouldn’t need it. As it might distract the viewers from the actually point of the storyline. The title of the thriller also gets the audience to think what the film is about as it is just called ‘The observer’ and its not letting nothing else out about it.

When using the Apple Macs at first I found them a bit tricky, but after using them a couple of times it became easier and after that I got the use of them. I have learnt about all the inputs you have to deal to create a successful film. From the planning, to the filming, to the editing and then to viewing the final piece. I have learnt a lot of things such as how to log and capture a film, put in the inputs and outputs, edit a film together and create a film. I have also seen that if a scene is not filmed right or the way you wanted you might have to go back and re-film it again, which might become a pain for the group. But its something you got to get over to make the film be exactly what you wanted.

The cameras were easy to use as I have work with them before so this I did not have no trouble with. The final cut pro program was difficult to use at first but with a lot of practising and playing with, you start to find out were things or and it becomes simpler. The soundtrack was the most fun part to work with as we could listen to a range of sounds and play around with it. I learnt how to make a soundtrack and mix all the sounds together to make a good soundtrack. This was very enjoyable.

When I first started the preliminary I was confident in what I was doing but not as confident as I am now. I have learnt how the plan and organise my work into a production line so the thing goes exactly to plan and to deal with anything that doesn’t go to plan, which may happen while filming. I have also learnt how to work effectively in a group with everyone putting there views in and creating a successful film. I also learnt to understand the genre of thriller a bit more and that it didn’t have to be scary but leave the audience wanting to no what happened next. I have gotten better at editing and filming and think that I have improved a lot with all the work we have done.

Editing Day 2

Today was the finally deadline for our films. We were ment to meet at lunch time to finish the soundtrack but speaking to efosa the day before, i had realised he had come in his spare time to start the soundtrack, however he didnt finish it all and needed the groups advice also.

The media suite were hetic everyone was trying to complete there work but our group was relax as we knew we had done the best that we could.

We listen to Efosa soundtrack and it was really good it fitted the clip perfectly but there was a few extra bits that could have been added so as a group we helped pick out some other sounds so that it could be a perfect as possible.

Now all we had to do after that was add the soundtrack to the film and then add the credits. Me and Ava done the credits the lesson before but were told that they looked a bit girly so as a group on our final editing day we create the credits as a group and put it in.

We then had to pick a name for our thriller there was the name we wanted from the beginning the 'The Unknown' or 'Anoymous' but in the end as a group we thought the best name was 'The observer'

Our film was finish everything was done to perfection. We even stuck to the deadline of 3pm for all the media thriller. Even though in our class the deadline was 4.30pm as it was our 3hour media lesson.

This was a great relief for our group we had completed it in the deadline, when we watched over what we had done and it all put together i was very pleased with the work which we all put in. As a group we worked well together there was minor issues that we got over and all in all it was a great success. I am also happy that i got to work with this group as they were a great team =] =] Hopefully we get good marks and the audience like it when we watch it at the cinema. =]

Editing Day 1

Today was our first editing day, all the group was in and that was a good thing. As everything was all loged and captured from previous lesson all we really had to do was find the best clips and point them together.

We had to make sure with the clips that they fitted correctly to the story that we was trying to tell. This took a lot of time as sometimes i would go out of focus during filming or laugh and we filmed it several times so we had to find the best frame and put it all together

In this lesson we had finished the editing and when we looked back at it, i was very proud of the work that we had all inputed to make this thriller.

As a group we had started to look at soundtracks that fit with the thriller, Me and Ava then decieded that we would go an create the credits for the movie while Efosa and Rebecca continue to look for the sound tracks and add the little extra effects that were needed to the footage e.g slowing down some bits.

So everything was on track and the group was doing there best that we could do. Hopefully we will finish by the deadline on friday. We was ment to be meeting at lunch to finish the soundtrack !!

Filming Day 5

Today was a great success, but unfortently our group member Ava couldnt make it because of a funeral. This was going to be our last filming day and for me the last day of wearing the same outfit i had been wearing for weeks on end.

We all met at around 10 but Efosa was there from 9.20 so that he could get the camera and finish logging and capturing what we previously done in the lesson the week before.

Me, Rebecca and Efosa had to think of how we was going to end the thriller to make it as most thrilling as possible so we done a series of different types of ending. One, was me falling and running, which didnt work because the drop looked to fake. I had to do a running scene which took forever as i had to do everything over and over again and this was beginning to annoy me as we wanted it to be perfect.

In the end we finally got what we wanted to do and fixed up all of the other stuff that we needed to. This was our final filming day we had completed it. It was the most exciting thing i had heard. I no longer had to wear the same outfit over and over again. It was our week hoilday so we had to wait to we came back to complete it. That would be our first editing day =]

Filming Day 4

Today was our fourth filming day, our deadline was getting closer and closer and we still had a little bit to do with the filming.

Efosa our directed had seen that there was some continuous errors, which we had made while filming. When he was re looking over what we had log and capture, and thought that it would be a good idea to polish up the little mistakes that we had made so that we could make the film to the best of out ability.

We also today had to think of how we was going to end our thriller, we had alot of thoughts in mind but just had to choose the perfect one.

Today was one of our short lesson and we couldnt fit everything we wanted in. We also didnt have a lesson on friday which was meant to be our other day. There was a media workshop on the monday in the half term that me and my group had all agree to come to hoping to finish our thriller and start with a bit of the editing.

Thriller Editing Day 2

Well for me this was actually a two day editing, because the day before the deadline I spent my free time to come in and do some editing, we needed to create the sound. I came in at lunch and the Mac’s were all used up so I had to wait a while, but it wasn’t long before I got a Mac to use. It took me a while to actually figure out what it is that I would use to create the sound, as you see we had a vast majority of tools and instruments which we could have chosen from, so that even made the task harder.

Finding the right type of mood for the sound was the trickiest part, I had to decide how it would run throughout the whole clip. At first I wanted it to be calm at the start and the gradually speed up the tempo to increase the tension, but that got scrapped as I had realised that creating a soundtrack that was mysterious at start and then slowly increasing the tempo would be much more effective. So I spent time fiddling with the tools and instruments, and I had finally created a soundtrack which I was pleased with, it still needed some tweaking to It but I had decided to leave that for the tomorrow, because everyone in the group would be in and then we can decide on whether the soundtrack is good or not, or whether there’s anything else that needs to be added on.

So tomorrow came and everyone was in as expected, we divided the groups into two, me and Rebecca done the sound and some finishing touches to the clip, Ava & Annie went off to finish the credits. The editing wasn’t really tricky at all, we just had to distort some images and slow down a couple of scenes wasn’t no big. The soundtrack also got tweaked a bit just to improve the tension. Ava & Annie came back but had a problem with the credits, so we had to re-create the credits again which didn’t take very long. We got that done quickly and compiled the whole clip and we were done, the end product was made. All the hard work paid off.

Thriller Editing Day 1

Today the whole group was in as expected, we straight away got started with our editing, and all we had to do is compile the whole thriller together. We had to go through all the clips we had filmed and pic the ones we thought was best, after doing all of that we had to construct the story line. We decided which clip we wanted to go where and depending on where the clip was based a different story would be, told but all leading to the same ending. So it took a while for us to decide which order the clips would go in for the best possible storyline we could present. One major problem we had while trying to compile the clips, was setting the in-points and outpoints because you see as we were filming, the actor would sometimes laugh or go out of role and all of that was caught on tape and even messed up some of the clips. However we were somehow able to set the in-points and outpoints correctly so that it didn’t really affect the whole thriller.

Since not everyone was engaged in the work we were doing, we decided to split the group into two so that everyone has work to do. Me and Rebecca stayed editing while Annie and Ava went off to start the credits, shortly after that we had finally constructed a clip which me and Rebecca was pleased with, we would show the others later because lesson had now finished. All that was left to do now was the sound and some tweaks to the clip, so stay tuned for Thriller Editing Day 2 the final stand point. See Ya
